HUBER Grit Washers selected for Sydney Water’s largest STP Inlet Works

Sydney Water’s largest STP is currently being upgraded by 4Malabar Alliance (GHD, UGL, John Holland and Sydney Water) to improve reliability and performance of the treatment plant.

As part of the upgrade, new mechanical equipment will be installed in the plant’s inlet works and bio-solids facilities. The Inlet Works will include six of HUBER’s largest Grit Washing Plants which will wash and dewater grit captured in the longitudinal grit traps to 90% dry solids, reducing current transport and disposal costs by half.

HUBER Grit Washers

“Based on the incredible performance of similar units installed by HUBER at Bondi, Nth Head and Warriewood, Sydney Water has again selected our equipment for their largest intake.

The use of the HUBER RoSF4 Grit Washing Process results in a product that is 90% dry solids, with less than 3% organics residual. This means 50% reduction in disposal volume and costs, as compared to a conventional classifier. Plus the grit is odour and vermin free” said John Koumoukelis from Hydroflux HUBER.
The HUBER RoSF4 Coanda Grit Washer is used for washing and dewatering of grit slurry trapped in vortex or longitudinal type grit removal chambers. It achieves the highest washing level, resulting in the driest product possible, reducing disposal costs. In Europe the grit is reused as a fill in road base and other construction material.

Over 2000 units have now been installed around the world, with reference plants in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.
