After the successful commissioning and performance testing of the HUBER Q-PRESS at their Pemberton WWTP, Water Corporation have awarded Hydroflux another Q-PRESS for their Albany-Timewell WWTP.
The current Albany-Timewell WWTP upgrade includes the installation a new sludge handling facility which includes a new HUBER S-DISC Thickener and Q-PRESS Rotary Sludge Press.
“The performance testing at the Pemberton WWTP demonstrated the Q-PRESS’s ability to achieve a high cake solids of 18% dry solids for waste activated sludge. This is significantly higher than the 13 – 14% being achieved by the existing belt presses and results in significant reductions in sludge cartage costs.
Q-PRESS delivers similar performance to centrifuges, but with only 10% of power demand. Operators love the fact that the internal screw rotates at a maximum speed of 1RPM! Maintenance of these units is so simple.
Similarly in Qld, recent performance testing of 2 x Q-PRESS units demonstrated an 18 – 19% dry solid for waste activated sludge. So the trend of switching to Q-PRESS in Europe and the US is now happening here in Australia” says John Koumoukelis, Director of Hydroflux Pty Ltd
Q-PRESS is an inclined rotary screw press that has been specifically design to dewater sludge. It provides a high volume reduction which results in lower sludge disposal costs. The unit is fully fabricated from stainless steel and is fully enclosed.
